“Matt Frick is one of my favorite people to play music with in Tampa” -Cory Mon

I enjoy working with musicians who are ever-changing. Each day they arise and challenge themselves to get better. The sound they produce is much better than the alternative. Matt Frick is that type of musician. He attacks each day with the energy and desire to put-forth sound that will move his fans. – John Sammel

My name is Matt Frick. In town everyone calls me “Frick”. I’m a multi-instrumentalist one man band looking for safe gigs to play in St. Pete/ Clearwater/ Tampa areas. I’ve played with many great bands which have opened up for many big acts such as George Clinton, Santana side stage, Los Lobos, Tony Trishka, Widespread panic to name a few.

I hit the scene in Tampa in 2017. I met Josh and Jenny Higgins at Love’s artifacts and was inspired to start doing my own solo gigs. At first I tried to sit in as many shows as I could to get a feel for what gigs would be like. My background has always been as a percussionist. Playing conga, marimba, auxiliary percussion and breaking out the banjo when needed. I’ve played guitar my whole life but was reborn after learning how to play the blues. Josh Higgins was just the person for me to realize that’s my calling. Soon I would meet Brad Smith a local drum legend, and Cory Mon who would take me to the next level sitting in with duos/ trios/ 4 piece gigs. Often just meeting the musicians for the first time on stage. Was a real thrill for me to break loose from my percussion background and just play electric guitar. Soon I found the courage to book my first 4 hour gig at Love’s Artifacts. The feeling was so powerful for me I set a goal to take it to the next level. It was time to add my percussion background to my guitar and banjo with the help of a serious looper pedal called the RC-505. Next thing you know I’m playing at The American Legion, Mary’s, Brass Tap, Nazca Bar, World of Beer, Maloney’s, Brown Boxer, Crabby’s, Salty’s, Bonefish to name a few. As of 4/4/2021 am a full time musician!

My solo gigs I usually keep simple with an acoustic guitar, rc600 looper, and a mic for vocals. Every now and then I’ll bring a bigger set up with a yamaha reface yc (organ), electric guitar, and a huge multi looping set up. I’ve found for solo gigs the simple set up helps with smooth transitions and simplicity.

I’m able to change up my style depending on the venue. In a split second I can adapt to a blues, rock, folk or even outlaw country if needed. I consider myself a blues guitarist.

My buddy Eric Riddles has been a huge part of my musical journey. He moved here from North Carolina to play music with me when covid first hit in 2020. We’ve been playing for over 20 years together. We’ve started a gigging duo we are calling “Eric and Matt”. Check us out at www.ericandmattmusic.com. Eric and I need your help booking some small venues in the area!! Matt Frick Solo

My Solo shows are consistent and never disappoint.

I play a good mix of all the classic hits from the 70’s-90’s to newer hits like Tennessee Whiskey. I would say I’m Blues-Rock-Folky. Sometimes I throw in a few classic rock songs on the banjo (Zeppelin, Beatles, STP). When I play solo I usually am 40% acoustic guitar 40% Electric guitar 20% banjo or keys. I only bring my electric banjo or keys for the right venues. I love to switch in between instruments in the middle of epic looping. I don’t play over any pre recorded tracks, I personally don’t like seeing live musicians doing that unless they are hiphop. I believe you need to create music from scratch live for everyone to see. If your venue needs a bluesy guy, well that’s me. If you venue needs a roots, folk, bluegrassy guy, that’s me. If your venue needs a good mix of all the classics, that’s me. I try to play a little of everything and can also get people up and dancing if needed!

Duos with Eric & Matt

Eric and Matt are the newest blues/rock duo in St. Pete/ Tampa! We’ve been playing and recording together for 20+ years. We are known for epic harmonies, mind blowing blues covers and solos. All our beats are made live vocally, very hard to hear the difference of real drums. We utilize looping to make us sound like a full band at the cost of a duo. I’m proud to say we don’t play over any pre recorded tracks, we create our own! Check out these two videos below, both very recent (March 2021). With enough notice we can get a drummer for a sweet trio.

Now booking evenings past 6pm during the week and any time weekends for summer 2021. Looking for safe venues to perform at. Click here to follow our facebook page, also checkout our official web page EricandMattmusic.com
